Mobile gaming giant Rovio has declared that their hit mobile game Angry Birds has grown exponentially with more than 500 million downloads.

Peter Vesterbacka, Marketing Chief, Rovio was quoted as saying , “It’s more than any game ever before.”

We believe that Vesterbacka is true in his claim as Angry Birds, a mobile game where one needs to use a slingshot for attacking pigs that steal birds’ eggs, has been a top-of the-line game ever since it was launched from in the Apple’s iTunes store for the iPhone on 11th December, 2009.

Ever since then, Angry Birds has been growing on many platforms whether it is Apple’s iOS or Google’s Android.

Vetserbecka further stated that the company’s aim was to reach 1 billion global fans, which would include people using the game on mobiles and computers.

Rovio also sells toys and baby products besides mobile games. It is also in talks for a film venture of the game. Rovio also raised $42 million from a deal with Accel Partners (Also involved with Facebook and Baidu) and Atomico Ventures (a venture firm founed by Skype founder Niklas Zennström).

The maker of Angry Birds, Rovio was founded in 2003 when 3 students including Niklas Hed (Rovio’s present COO) and his cousin Mikael Hed when they won a gaming development competition sponsored by Hewlett-Packard CO and Nokia Oyg. Earlier called Relude, it changed its name to Rovio in 2005.

Vesterback also told Bloomberg that Rovio could go public in the coming year. He was quoted as saying , “We’re happy with our valuation, but we think it’s probably a bit north of that [$1 billion].

We’re not ready to file for an IPO tomorrow. Maybe a year from now.”

Know Your Mobile wishes both Rovio and Angry Birds the best of luck.
