Microsoft comes up with the Marketplace Extra website

Microsoft has come up with the Windows Phone Marketplace Extra – a website that helps you make easily select your favorite apps amongst 35,000 plus apps.

The website comes with a byline –  ‘In search of great apps.’

The site simplifies the process of selecting apps with 8 sub-heads – foodies, going out, health + fitness, music, news, parents, shopping and traveling. Besides that, it also highlights trending WP7 videos and articles for tips regarding this OS.

Along with that Microsoft has clubbed Groups, threads in addition to pictures hub that lets you syndicate your pictures online. This option also includes a music + videos hub, an office hub along with an Internet explorer option. The last option called Local Scout is more of a navigation system that provides you GPS data for your surroundings.

Under the ‘buy’ head, Microsoft has enlisted different Windows phones along with heir respective carriers which can help you make an informed decision in case you are willing opt for a Windows Phone.

The ‘Marketplace’ head constitutes the regular marketplace, but along with apps it comes with sharing and exploring and finding out more about apps. In addition to that, there is help and how to section to help you with Windows apps.

A Myapps section is dedicated to help you customize your Windows Phone.

Furthermore, it also has the 5 different heads. The Discover Hub comes with a people hub with easy access to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Using the hub, one can dial text or IM at the same time.

The website currently looks quite simple but we expect it to get diverse as the Windows Marketplace attracts more apps. It also looks quite similar to Windows’ Live Tiles interface and acts more like an app hub rather than a website.

Windows Marketplace competes with the 400,000 app Android marketplace and Apple’s appstore. Windows Marketplace Extra seems like to effort to stand out in the real marketplace.
