Motorola loyalists have a lot to look forward to, with the arrival of the Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition. Both the tablets run on Android 3.2 Honeycomb and are powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor.

Both variants have other features in common too, including 1 GB RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. Both come fitted with a 5MP rear facing camera and a 1.3MP front facing camera that facilitates video calling. Content can be streamed to and from both tablets via MotoCast.

This is where the similarity ends though. The Xoom 2 weighs 599g and sports dimensions of 253.9mm x 173.6mm x 8.8mm. The Media Edition is lighter at 386g with dimensions of 139mm x 216mm x 8.99mm.

The display screen of the Xoom 2 is bigger at 10.1’’; the Media Edition comes with an 8.2’’ display. Both HD displays are protected by Corning Gorilla glass and a splash guard which promise to keep them safe from all sorts of impacts.

The Xoom 2 boasts of 10 hours of battery life where as the Media Edition, true to its name, promises to playback music for 3 days straight. The former comes equipped with 3D virtual surround sound and the latter comes with multiple speakers and booming bass. The Media Edition also offers wide angle viewing, perfect for watching videos and promises a 20% improvement in graphics performance from the original Motorola Xoom.

Motorola has positioned the Xoom 2 as an ideal business tablet. Easier to hold with it’s flattened edges, it comes equipped with work-friendly features like data encryption, GoToMeeting, Active Sync, MOTOPRINT, VPN support and Motorola Stylus compatibility.

Motorola’s newest offerings pack quite a punch and promise to secure the manufacturers position in the tablet game. Motorola hasn’t yet specified when the tablets will be available in the rest of the world and how much they will cost though. Since the tablets will be available in the UK and Ireland by the middle of the month, chances are they will hit the Asian markets soon after.
