The "nano of tablet world" Aaakash managed to grab headlines wordwide. It therefore comes as a little surprse that there are plans of introducing a more advanced version of the popular tablet.
The HRD Minister Kapil Sibal recently announced that Aakash 2 will be launched in February next year. The advanced version will be powered with upgraded hardware.
We will see seeing a 800Mhz processor replace the earlier 366MHz processor of Aakash. The upgraded version is also expected to be equipped with 1GB RAM, a big bump from the earlier 256 RAM. It might also support a inbuilt front facing camera through which one can make video calls. The screen size of this device is also expected to be enhanced to seven-inches.
Kapil Sibal showcased this device at the United Nations Conference. Tagged as the device for the “Children of the World”, the upgraded tablet will be available for Rs 2,276, which is same as that of Aaakash.
As per the HRD Minister, this tablet will reach every child by the end of year 2017 (end of the 12th plan).
The older version of Aakash was marred by several issues like poor sound quality, lack of support for all formats, overhearting issues (within 30 minutes).
Based on the feedbacks received from IITs and other institutes, Aakash is expected to rectify all the bugs and issues and bring a more enhanced user experience.
