On its Facebook page, HTC has announced the first list of handsets that will get to taste the Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) update. HTC stated, "HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google's latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we're thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades.
Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G through close integration with our carrier partners.
We're continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich."
For the Indian HTC lovers, if you are a owner of HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE or HTC EVO 3D you will be one of the few to get up close and personal with Android's latest iteration.
As noted by HTC the actual upgrading process will not happen till 2012. Meanwhile the company is also assessing its other products that will be able to support the Android 4.0.
According to Engadget, HTC was initially vague about its upgrade plans because of the daunting task of keeping Sense relevant in light of ICS' vast design improvements.
Google in collaboration with Samsung launched the world's first Android 4.0 smartphone, Google Nexus recently. Mobile manufacturers have since then displayed their intentions to bring the popular upgrade to new as well as some of the popular older devices. Recently Samsung and LG have also confirmed their plans of bringing Android 4.0 treatment to their high end smartphone category.
