After the recent leak of the ASUS Transformer Prime which is set to be the world's first quad core tablet based on Nvidia's Tegra 3 chipset, we were quite excited about what the future holds for us. We thought it was only a matter of time till the Tegra 3 makes way to smartphones as well.
And now, we have a new leak in our hands which is believed to be the first quad core smartphone. This new leak reveals a brand new HTC device called the Edge and sheds light on some of its specs.
Well, the HTC Edge is a handset of gargantuan proportions. From the image accessed, we can make out that the handset is a regular slab style HTC device, but we were rather blown away by the specs inside the device.
The HTC Edge is said to feature a 4.7 inch HD resolution display (1280x800) which seems like a minimum requirement for newly announced smartphones. The Edge also features an 8MP camera with an f/2.2 lens which can record 1080p videos at 30 fps.
There's 1GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage on board. With a clockspeed of 1.5 GHz (per core) the Edge promises to be a multimedia powerhouse. We believe that a smartphone like this would need a relatively bigger battery to deal with the power.
The handset is said to break cover in Q1 or Q2 of 2012, so that means we have to wait for at least 6 months till the handset is formally announced.
It is believed that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich could be running on board the HTC Edge, but we don't quite know if it will feature HTC's proprietary Sense UI. Some reports even suggest that HTC is readying Sense UI 4.0 tailor made for the latest version of Android. Other new HTC services like HTC Watch, HTC Read, HTC Listen and HTC Play are said to be launched with the handset.
