With the launch of Nook, Kindle Fire is in for some tough competition. We compare the Nook with the Fire to help you decide which device is perfect for you

With a number of similar specs including screen size, pixel resolution, weight, dimensions, processors and battery life, there are a few features that set the two tablets apart.

1. Memory and Storage: The Nook offers 1GB of RAM as opposed to the Fire’s 512MB. It also comes with 16GB of internal storage and a MicroSD card slot for additional storage. In comparison, the Kindle Fire fares second with its 8GB of internal storage. In memory and space, the Nook emerges a sure-shot winner.

2. Cloud Services: The Kindle Fire, more than the Nook, is cloud based, with most of the users content stored online. This increases the users’ dependence on WiFi as they need to be connected at most times in order to access content. Depending on what sort of data plan you have and how good your connection is, you can choose the tablet that’s right for you.

3. Content: Compared to Barnes and Noble, Amazon offers a wider variety of content including books and videos. Amazon Prime offers members free shipping and free e-books on Fire. Barnes and Noble is getting competitive on the content front, but may still take some time to knock Amazon off its top stop.

4. Stores: Though Amazon is completely based on the web, Barnes and Noble have physical stores across the Western world. If faced with a problem with their device, all Nook users have to do is walk into the stores and seek help. Depending on where you live, you can decide the importance of this difference.

5. Price: The Nook is approx. $50 more than the Fire, which all things considered, is not that much. The extra money you pay is for the additional storage and memory that the Nook offers. The additional memory makes it a breeze to watch videos, listen to music and read books without worrying about deleting data to make room for something new.

The competition between the Nook and the Fire essentially boils down to content vs. memory. Where one offers more storage the other provides a wider spectrum of content. Which tablet will you go in for?
