Nokia’s update version 20.2011.40-4 is everything it promised N9 users it would be, and more. Among other things, the update brings music controls to the lock screen, a feature specially desired by those who use their devices primarily for music, besides making calls.
Now users of the N9 can even shoot videos and click pictures on their phones in a variety of hues. Camera enthusiasts can choose from black and white, sepia, vivid, solarise and negative. What’s more, as a default setting, users can close apps on the phone simply by swiping down.
Multitasking on the N9 has been given a lift with this update, as has memory handling. The standby screen of the phone has many new indicators including charging and calendar. Users can now use the Swype keyboard to type faster. Noise cancellation is probably the most sought after feature on the phone since background noise is now reduced during calls, ensuring clearer conversations.
The MeeGo update boasts of 308 new and improved features. These include Facebook integration and updates to NFC and Wi-Fi. The PR1.1 update is ready for download and most users have automatically received notifications advertising its availability. Users who have missed the notification can run a check for the update in the phone’s settings folder through the manage applications folder under the applications heading.
If Nokia’s new update for the N9 works flawlessly, it will place the company at a competitive advantage in the smartphone market. With rumours of PR1.2 already doing the rounds on the internet, it will be interesting to see what surprises Nokia puts on offer in the coming year.
