Google has been in more of a soup lately, and Eric Schmidt is trying every what way to rescue it. After reassuring the senate that Google isn’t a monopoly, now he is reassuring Android partners that the Motorola buyout will not change the way Google runs Android.
Schmidt was quoted as saying, at a South Korean press conference,” In general, with all of our partners, we told them that the Motorola deal will close and we will run it sufficiently and independently, that it will not violate the openness of Android”.
He further elucidated that Android will ’remain’ open for Google’s partners such as HTC, Samsung and many others. Schmidt was attempting to rest speculation that Motorola would become Google’s favorite vendor for Android.
He further added” We're not going to change in any material way the way we operate. We will run Motorola as a separate business. Many hardware partners have contributed to Android's success and we look forward to continuing to work with all of them to deliver outstanding user experiences.”
Android has been courting controversy ever since Google’s $12.5 million take over of Mototorola. It started with Nokia chief Stephen Elop ‘s comments that he saw ‘ signs of danger ahead’ for Android partners.
Even late Steve Jobs had commented in his biography that he wanted to ’destroy Android’ and that Android was a ‘stolen’ platform.
When asked about the same, Schmidt came up with an interesting response,” As a general comment, I think most people would agree that Google is a great innovator and I would also point out that the Android effort started before the iPhone effort.”
