According to a report in The Chinese Commercial Times, HTC is working on a tablet that promises to be fast, smart and powerful. The mystery tablet will most likely be showcased at the MWC expo to be held in February 2012 in Barcelona. The new quad-core tablet is said to be powered by a NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, instead of a Qualcomm processor HTC usually opts for.
Though details of HTC’s newest offering are yet unknown, according to Commercial Times it will run on the Android OS. In fact, the company is reportedly ready to release its two newest smartphones at the MWC expo as well, one of which is rumoured to be the quad-core HTC Edge and the other the HTC Ville.
The Chinese paper has placed the launch of the new tablet PC ahead of that of Microsoft’s Windows 8 OS, sometime in the third quarter of the next year, found Digitimes. Given that the competition in the tablet market is heating up at an alarming rate, HTC will face a number of contenders for the top slot in the coming year.
Though HTC’s previous releases in the tablet market have hardly been anything to write home about, its newest offering might just lend the company a new lease on life. According to media reports, HTC CEO Peter Chou has stated that the company wants to stand out from the competition and not be known for its “me too” products. The trick would be for HTC to unveil a quality tablet and release it soon, without too much delay.
