HTC ICS Update

Published on Nov 15, 2011

Good news is trickling in for everyone who has their eyes on Google new update to its Android operating system – the Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Google has released the source code for Ice Cream Sandwich delighting modders, hackers, developers and Android lovers alike.

The source code was announced at the Android building Google groups page. The release of the source trickles in good news for us as we expect to see ICS firmware such as Cyanogen Mod making their way to the net.

Jean-Bapiste Queru, an engineer at Google was quoted as saying,” this is actually the source code for version 4.0.1 of Android, which is the specific version that will ship on the Galaxy Nexus.”

Queru also warned that the file is large and might take some time to download.

One of the most interesting things is that the sourced code also includes the unreleased code for Android 3.0 – Honeycomb OS. Queru insists that developers should ignore this code in favor of the Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

One thing we would warn you about is to wait for Google’s official Ice Cream Sandwich release for downloading the OS update. If you try to sync beforehand, you might end up getting an incomplete version, which might prove utterly wasteful.

Android 4.0.1- will ship with Galaxy Nexus and will be the official version from Google.

Many people are delighted that the source code is here. Although Google has announced its first Ice Cream Sandwich OS handset – the Galaxy Nexus. The handset is still eluding the shelves.

According to the grapevine, it might be announced at Google’s official event taking place on the 16th of this month in Los Angeles. The source code might itself be an indication that the handset is readying its release.

One of the speculated reasons behind the release of the source code is Google might want to be app-ready before it gives Ice Cream Sandwich the final push.
