Qualcomm is back in the news after a while with two new announcements. It has released upgraded chipsets in the low-end S1 lineup for entry level smartphones and new chipsets in the high-end S4 range for more sophisticated devices. It has also expanded its GamePack portfolio with the new GameCommand application that promises more user-friendly games for Snapdragon devices.

The improved S1 chips promise better market penetration of entry level devices with their efficiency and speed. Handset makers using Qualcomm’s S1 chips will be able to provide users with smarter, more powerful phones at reasonable prices.  The upgrade will also allow users an easy transition from 2G to 3G.

The eight new S4 chips will ensure a rapid growth of dual and quad-core devices in the near future.  Users can expect phones with faster internet connection speeds, enhanced security, sharper cameras and clearer displays. For manufactures, it means better value at lesser costs. Qualcomm confirmed that devices powered by S4 processors will be available in early 2012.

With the launch of GameCommand, Qualcomm is promising to bring console quality gaming to users. The application will be available in the Android Market by early 2012 as well. A host of new titles are included in Qualcomm’s new package including The Ball, Flight Game Heroes and GALAGA Special Edition. With the new app, users will able to store and access their favourite games in a single place. The app also provides users with the latest news from the gaming world.

Qualcomm’s new offerings will make sure that smartphone users are in for some wonderful surprises next year. 2012 promises to be a very exciting year with the guarantee of faster, smarter and more powerful  devices.
