The new Android tablet from the house of Sharp will hopefully fare better than its predecessors. The company’s 5.5’’ and 10.8’’ tablets failed to make a mark among tablet users and had to be discontinued a few months ago. It looks like Sharp has fixed its flaws with its new 7’’ machine that SlashGear got its hands on.
The latest Galapagos tablet sports a 7’’ screen with a 1024 x 600p resolution. It is quite powerful with its Tegra 2 processor and dual-cores and runs on the Android 3.2 OS. As far as memory is concerned, its 1GB is accompanied with 8GB of internal storage. Of course, users can always add on to that through a microSD card. Users can watch up to 6 hours of video and go through seven and a half hours of still photos on the Galapagos’s battery without having to recharge it.
The tablet supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and WiMax connections. Through its hotspot function, it will be able to share a connection with seven other devices at a time. An HDMI port will allow users to stream content to a television as well. The tablet has 2 cameras, a rear-facing 5MP one and a front-facing 2MP one.
Sharp’s new device will most likely be made available around the third quarter of next year, on September 12. It’s pricing has not been confirmed yet, though. Since there is still time for the tablet to hit the market, it is too soon to predict how it will fare among users. Meanwhile, Sharp should use this time to incorporate new developments like the Android 4.0 OS to make the 7’’ Galapagos compete with similar smart devices from Samsung, Sony and Apple.
