Samsung releases an Android 3.2 update for its Galaxy Tab 10.1, but pulls it back due to Wi-Fi issues

Published on Nov 17, 2011

One of the most popular tablets in the world, the Samsung Galaxy Tab received an Android 3.2 update from the manufacturer, but the update needed to be pulled back as it disabled Wi-Fi on the tablet.

The OTA update was headed to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi only model. Wi-Fi disability turned out to be a major issue and led to Samsung abandoning the update all together.

Counted amongst one of the best high-end tablets after Apple’s iPad, the Samsung Galaxy Tab runs on Android Honeycomb and till date, hasn’t caused many problems.

But, it seems that Samsung might have ignored a bug while providing Galaxy Tab users with an update.

One of the strangest things about the update is that Samsung has already included the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in a list of Android devices headed for an Ice Cream Sandwich OS update.

It might be that the Android Honeycomb update might have meant to lay the groundwork for a final Ice Cream Sandwich update. But really, it is quite difficult to guess what Samsung has in mind.

The Galaxy Tab currently comes in two models – 10.1 and 8.9.

Both models have a PLS TFT capacitive toucshscreens with resolution of 1280 x 800p. They are both equipped with a dual-core 1GHz processor and a 3.15-megapixel 2048 x 1536p primary camera.

Both currently run on Android v3.0.

They come in Wi-Fi only/ Wi-Fi + 3G options. The come in 16/32/64 GB storage options.

Both of them come with features such as SNS integration, digital integration, TV Out, multi-format audio/video players, organizer and video/audio editor. Along with that, they come pre-loaded apps such as Quickoffice HD, Gmail, youtube etc.

While the Galaxy Tab 10.1 runs on a 7000 mAh battery, the 8.9 model runs on a 6000 mAh one.

The Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 (called the 750 in India) comes at a price of Rs. 33,000; the 8.9 model (going by 730) is priced at Rs. 30,900.

We are also waiting for the arrival of Galaxy tab 7.7, which has currently been released in the European market.
