Samsung in UK got its fans excited by tweeting that the hugely popular Galaxy S II’s operating system was in for an overhaul. The smartphone will move to the new Ice Cream Sandwich update, adding many new and improved features to its kitty. Though the company did not confirm a date for the move, Samsung enthusiasts are hoping it will be soon.
The Twitter feed sent out by SamsungUK read, “Hi, good news – The Galaxy S II will be receiving ICS, but there are no dates confirmed as yet. We will keep you posted.” With the OS update, the Galaxy S II will be almost as good as the new Galaxy Nexus, the first phone to carry ICS preinstalled.
Android users are looking forward to all that ICS offers and hopefully it will be made available for the Galaxy S II in the first quarter of 2012. One of the most powerful operating systems in the market, it combines the best features of Gingerbread and Honeycomb and takes media and social networking to new highs on smartphones.
ICS makes multi-tasking a breeze for users and allows them to customize their devices to suit their fancy. With resizable widgets and user friendly notifications, ICS promises to make life easier for Android smartphone users, among tones of other improvements.
The Galaxy Nexus and now the new and improved Galaxy S II, backed by the powerful ICS operating system are what will put Samsung in a competitive position vis-à-vis players like Apple and Motorola in 2012. The sooner Samsung releases the Android 4.0 update for the Galaxy S II, the better.
