Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich keyboard for your Android smartphone (no root access needed)

There is no stable build of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) available yet, but there are a few ways for users to get a peek into what Google has to offer courtesy of applications available in the Android Market.

Well, since Google has no stringent restrictions for what gets into the Android Market like Apple has for its AppStore, there is room for a variety of apps and in large numbers. While you may have come across Ice Cream Sandwich themes on the Android Market which (in most cases) require root access, there are very few of them that work without root access. But we have come across an app from the Android Market which could cheer you up a little.

Most of them who know a thing or two about Ice Cream Sandwich might have heard about the new and improved keyboard that it features. Well, you can now get a similar keyboard (with the same design and almost similar functionality) from the Android Market.

The Ice Cream Sandwich Keyboard app works fairly well with most Froyo running handsets, which is great for a relatively new app like this one. The voice to text functionality however doesn’t seem to work, but we hope the developer will try to bring that particular feature with future updates.

The app is available in the Android Market, so you might want to give the app a try. Alternatively, you can also side load the app by downloading the app available in a number of file sharing sites.

Though remember that since this is a relatively new app and it will be prone to a few bugs. For a free app though, we think it’s fairly good. I’ve personally tried this app and besides force closing a few times and no support for voice to text, I was satisfied. The app requires Android 2.2 Froyo or above to work.
