Sareddy Chiman Prakash and Nikhil of Hyderabad have made India proud by developing a full- fledged working tablet running on the Android 2.3 operating system. The machine has been named ‘Ave’ and was launched by Ponnala Lakshmaiah, IT and Communications Minister of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.

The device developed by the two teens will be manufactured by Sareddy Technologies, a UK based company owned by Prakash’s family. Powered by a 1.2GHz processor, it weighs only 360 gms. The high-end Gingerbread tablet comes with a 7’’ display screen and an internal storage of 8GB. Of course, the tablets memory can be expanded with a MicroSD card to 32GB. Ave also comes with a compatibility zoom mode and offers 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The new tablet is being marketed as a multi-purpose device suitable for people across ages and professions and will retail at Rs. 12,999/-.

The makers of Ave are hoping to sell at least 1000 units in the first month of its launch and are gradually looking to take its production and distribution further. Prakash told Business Line, “We are in talks with Reliance Digital and Bajaj Capital for offering financial schemes for students and others.”

If the manufacturers of Ave are indeed able to strike a deal with Reliance and Bajaj, Ave could well be on its way to becoming a house hold name. An Indian made device like Ave that offers everything that any foreign made device offers at a reasonable rate is sure to win a fan following quickly. Hopefully, the tablet will work well and the company will offer reliable after sales services. It will be interesting to see how well Ave fares in the coming months against established players in the market.
