Nokia’s mystery phone Lumia 601?

PocketNow got its hands on what could well be Nokia’s next offering, seen in a promo video last week. Pictures of the phone assumed to be the Lumia 601 come from a so called reliable source but even PocketNow is not willing to stake its reputation on the claim. According to the experts on the site, one of the pictures looks a little ‘off’. The site warns that the picture used in the video might just be a generic image showcasing hardware or a technology.

The leaked image has the internet world in the tizzy, nonetheless. If the image is authentic and does depict the Lumia 601, then we are looking at a low-mid range device, notwithstanding the 8MP camera highlighted in the image. Since no specs or details were leaked along with the image, it is hard to pin point as yet where the phone will stand in the hierarchy of Nokia smartphones, though. 

Though Nokia’s latest leaked images have got the world guessing what the company has got up its sleeve, the firm has been silent about any new devices in the Lumia series. Nokia’s latest smartphones powered by the Windows Phone platform have been well received in the mobile market. In fact, Nokia is well on its way to consolidating its position as a key player in the mobile world. 

It makes sense then for the company to come up with a lower end Windows smartphone at a reasonable rate. If the Lumia 601 is indeed real, it may just be what Nokia needs to gain an advantage in emerging smartphone markets, especially in Asia.
