From hitting the 35,000 mark in October, Windows Phone Marketplace has now grown to over 40,000 apps. According to the unofficial figures from the All About Windows Phone website, almost 5,000 apps were added in the past month alone.
Launched with just 1000 apps, the Windows Phone platform which occupies less than 1.5 percent of the global smartphone marketplace has delivered pretty impressive numbers. Starting in January 2011 from 6,000 apps, the Marketplace has grown from about 116 apps per day to around 165 apps per day.
Even though the Windows Marketplace is growing, it is still far behind Google Market and Apple App store. The present app score has Apple leading with more than 500,000 apps, Google Market trails behind with 300,000 apps.
Research firms have predicted that Windows Phone 7 platform will rise to the second position by 2015. According to VentureBeat, "one thing that will likely help its growth will be Nokia, which has bet the house on Windows Phone 7 and recently debuted its slick-looking Lumia 800 and 710 smartphones."
