Lenovo is working on a 5’’ tablet, leaked pictures of which are doing the rounds on the internet. The small Android powered device promises to fit snugly into pockets

Engadget got one of their tipsters to show them pictures of Lenovo’s newest offering. The pocket sized tablet the company is working on is powered by a dual core processor and runs on an Android operating system. The pictures feature a black 5’’ tablet that will retail under the brand IdeaTab. This is the name Lenovo has given to its tablet line, to differentiate it from its line of IdeaPad laptops.

From the photos it is clear that the tablet sports a microUSB port and HDMI output. A front facing camera and what seem like three capacitive buttons can be seen in the pictures too. Experts are of the view then that the tablet will most likely not run on the ICS or Honeycomb operating systems. From the pictures it is difficult to judge whether the device can be used to make voice calls.

What is known about the tablet is that due to its compact side, it is as easy to carry around as a smartphone. The 5’’ tablet can easily slide into users’ pockets. If Lenovo packs some sophisticated features into its tiny space, this trim device can well earn a fan following among those who love to carry their tablets everywhere they go.

Since this is just the first set of leaked pictures of Lenovo’s latest tablet, information on its specs is sketchy. Pricing and availability are not yet known either, but the way the tablet market is booming, it would serve Lenovo well to launch its mini tablet in the near future. With rumours of an iPad mini doing the rounds too, it looks like tablets are all set to go small and sophisticated next year.
