The world has been talking about Samsung’s S8600 Wave 3 for a few months now. Yesterday Samsung finally launched the handset globally. Priced at approx. Euro 280, the smartphone has a lot to offer on the Bada 2.0 OS.

Samsung’s newest device is powered by a 1.2 GHz Scorpion processor and runs on the Bada 2.0 operating system. Its sleek metal frame is similar it those of its predecessors with dimensions of 125.9 x 64.2 x 9.9mm. It is quite light, weighing 122 gm. Its internal memory of 2GB can be expanded up to 32GB with a MicroSD card. A 1500 mAh battery powers the phone.

The handset sports a 4’’ Super AMOLED screen with a WVGA resolution of 480 x 800p. Of course, the glass surface of the capacitive touchscreen is scratch resistant. The phone works with pinch zooming gestures and has two cameras, a rear-facing one and a front-facing one. The rear facing 5MP camera has an auto focus and a LED flash. It is capable of recording video with a resolution of 720p. The front facing VGA camera is ideal for video calls.

Among other features, there is an accelerometer for the screens auto rotate control, an ambient light sensor and an FM radio on the phone. On the connectivity front, the phone is Wi-Fi, GPS, EDGE and Bluetooth enabled, besides offering NFC support.

The Samsung S8600 looks like a good deal for those who want to go in for a Samsung phone but want to try the Bada OS instead of Android. Backed by Samsung’s track record of hardware and the Bada OS, this phone is an ideal mid range device at a reasonable price.
