Smartphone enthusiasts over at Modaco have released a boot image of the Galaxy Nexus that promises to fix the volume bug that has been bothering users for some time now. The fix is available for download but its makers warn that it is still in the testing phase and there are no guarantees for its working or capabilities, though it worked out just fine for them.

Modaco says that what it is presenting is the ‘forthcoming official fixed boot image’ which resolves the problem of the volume bug. According to Modaco, “In order to flash this boot image, you need your bootloader to be unlocked at this time.” It tells users to use ‘./fastboot-windows oem unlock’ or the version appropriate for a user’s machine, which is included in the download.

Before taking any action, it must be remembered that the OEM unlock sequence wipes a device clean. Thus it is important to backup data before unlocking a gadget in this way. Along with the downloadable fix, Modaco’s website also gives clear instructions on how to use this solution.

Though Modaco’s efforts are commendable to say the least, for users who are not risk takers, it might do well to wait. Samsung will most likely release an official fix to the volume problem plaguing most Galaxy Nexus users. With all the competition in the smartphone market and the holiday season just around the corner, Samsung is sure to get its act together soon.

Users confident enough to try out Modaco’s fix need to remember to back up their systems and then proceed – of course, at their own risk.
