Rumours on the web are rife that India will get its hands on the Motorola XT615 in January 2012. The smartphone is a mid range device that runs on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS and is powered by an 800 MHz processor. It has a 512 RAM and a 1GB ROM. It is quite sleek and slim, its frame measuring 9.1mm.
The phone sports the MotoSwitch UI and a 4’’ display. This UI keeps record of most used contacts and most used apps and places them within easy reach of the user. The user does not have to search for frequently used functions; MotoSwitch keeps them front and centre on the device.
The phone also has a 6MP camera and is equipped with a LED flash. A second front facing camera is useful for video calling. As far as connectivity is concerned, the handset offers support for GPRS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G.
According to The Mobile Indian, the Motorola XT615 will retail in India for Rs. 17,500/-. Experts there feel that it is the smaller processor that is keeping the price of the phone down, which is otherwise equipped with fairly high-end features. The processor has made it possible for Motorola to sell the phone in the mid range segment.
If the XT615 does retail at this price, it might be the phone of choice for those who like Motorola devices and are comfortable with Android’s Gingerbread OS. Even better, with the competition in the smartphone market getting tougher every day, Motorola might even introduce some new and improved features on the device in the coming months.
