Siri Dictation arrives for older iPhones, unofficially

Siri Dictation can now be enjoyed on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and the 4th generation iPod Touch. A new jail break named Siri0us makes it possible for users to load and run it on their devices. Of course, the catch is that the users have to unlock their phones unofficially before doing so, at their own risk.

Before the iPhone 4S hit stores, Siri was available as a standalone application in the App Store and worked well on earlier devices. Once Apple integrated it into the iOS of its latest offering, they pulled if off the shelves from the App Store. Now the jailbreak programme has bought it back.

Hackers who have played around with Siri on older models of Apple devices claim that it runs flawlessly. The trick is of course to get the jailbreak right. The good thing is Siri0us does not even require any 4S UDID’s, files or special keys to work.

Gizmo enthusiasts at PCWorld earlier found that the hack could be downloaded from Cydia. Once it was installed, users could start using Siri immediately. Unfortunately, it looks like Nuance, the company that makes Siri’s voice recognition technology, wasn’t very happy with these developments. According to reports on PCWorld, Siri0us has been removed from Cydia as of now. 

Even though Siri0us is currently unavailable, the effort put into developing it is commendable to say the least. Maybe hackers will find a way to bring it back online. Even better, maybe its creation will encourage Apple to bring Siri back to the App Store after all.
