Dell Venue Pro gets the Mango update

All WP handsets now have Mango running on them

Well, most you might remember the Dell Venue Pro which has a rather unique form factor with a QWERTY keyboard. The Venue Pro is also one of the few WP7 handsets to feature expandable storage. Besides this, there’s nothing to write home about for the handset.

Maybe it’s the extra long form factor or the platform, the Venue Pro received highly negative reviews from users and experts alike. And now the handset has received the Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) update which is supposed to bring new things to the table.

The Venue Pro interestingly is one of the last phones in the Windows Phone arena to get the Mango update. This means that, most of the WP7 devices that are available now are running on Mango.

Windows Phones have been fairly silent in the Indian market since its arrival, with Android pretty much dominating the market. But with the market expecting Nokia’s new Windows Phone in the form of the Lumia 800 and 701, we could see a chunk of the market share go to Nokia. And to make things better, HTC and Samsung are coming up with new Windows Phones.

It is yet to be known if the Mango update will make the Venue Pro a better handset. But sadly, there are quite a few things wrong about the Venue Pro than just the operating system. And we think Microsoft realizes that too. Microsoft will now be looking to focus on upcoming smartphones and also the development of Windows Phone in the coming days.

The Venue Pro hit India in March and it hasn’t quite picked up sales. And with the arrival of the new Windows Phones, we fear that the story will be no different. The Venue Pro is being sold in India for Rs. 22-24,000 which is quite a bit when compared to Android devices.
