BBX to be known as BlackBerry 10

RIM has backed out of the BBX name due to legal implications

BlackBerry smartphones have been struggling to survive in the market ever since the Droids and the iPhones made way to the market. But the company is striving to put those days behind and begin afresh.
The combination of the two CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie hasn’t exactly worked out for RIM. But with the arrival of the BlackBerry OS 7 and a bunch of new handsets, RIM has set its foot in the right direction. Even though these handsets received lukewarm reception, we cannot disregard the fact that BlackBerry is making an effort to stay in the market.
And now, we have info about a future update of BlackBerry OS.
The next version of BlackBerry was reported to be called as BBX. But since a company (BASIS International) already has rights for the name, RIM has backed out from using it. RIM had no other option but to back out since the right holding company took RIM to court. So what will the next version of BlackBerry?
Well, RIM has decided to call the new update BlackBerry 10. The announcement was made at the BlackBerry DevCon Asia. The source suggests that BlackBerry 10 actually stands for BBX, with the first two letters saying BlackBerry and the third being the Roman numeral ‘10’ (X), which pretty much explains the reasoning behind the name. But with that being cleared out, we are a little baffled over the jump from 8 and 9 to 10. But the name hardly matters when it comes to a platform like BlackBerry.
Research In Motion India has appointed Sunil Dutt as its new Managing Director. Dutt will succeed Frenny Bawa who resigned from office last month. Dutt when asked about his appointment, said – “India has achieved considerable success in RIM’s global business in recent years. I am excited to be part of RIM and to help drive this success further.”
