According to a report in Digitimes that BGR got its hands on, production of the iPad 3 is on in full swing and the tablet will most likely hit the retail market early next year. Sources in the Apple’s supply chain told Digitimes that though production of the iPad 2 is currently high, it will reduce in the coming months to make way for the powerful new iPad 3.

Sources reveal that 14-15 million units of the popular iPad 2 were produced in the 4th quarter of 2011. That number will fall to about 4-5 million units in the next quarter. Taking the popular tablet’s place will be the iPad 3, with an estimated 9-10 million units making their way into the retail market at the same time.

Manufacturers have already started the shipping and delivery of the components that make up the powerful new tablet. The iPad 3 is expected to roll out in USA and Europe before it hits Asian markets later in the year.

If rumours surrounding the design and specs of Apple’s newest offering are to be believed, the iPad 3 will be thicker than its predecessors. Some experts feel that the new design will support a larger battery which in turn will make the device compatible with 4G LTE technology. Others are of the opinion that a thicker body is designed to make room for the tablet’s high resolution Retina Display. Either way, the iPad 3 is sure to take the tablet market by storm with its launch early next year.

The competition in the tech world is all set to heat up in 2012, with Samsung, Asus, Apple and other players set to release fancier, smarter devices than ever before.
