Asus confirmed Android Ice Cream Sandwich update for its Transformer Prime tablet device.

ASUS’s official announcement on an ICS update has been welcomed by tablet lovers all over the world.

This is the first time the company has given a concrete timeline for the changeover. Up to now, it had been offering Q1 2012 as the time when its flagship tablet Transformer Prime will get Android’s 4.0 operating system.

ASUS made this announcement when it put rumours to rest about when users in Italy will be able to get their hands on the Eee Pad. Apparently, the tablet will ship to these users next month and will come pre-loaded with the Android 4.0.

The Transformer Prime is powered by a quad-core Tegra 3 processor and offers 1024MB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Its 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 pixel display is brilliant to behold and it has two cameras – an 8MP rear facing one and a smaller front facing one.

The main camera comes with auto focus, flash and HD video recording capabilities. As far as connectivity is concerned, the Eee Pad works on Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth.

ASUS is going to give players like Apple, Samsung and Acer a run for their money with the Transformer Prime. Once the tablet gets the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, there’s no stopping it. It will be interesting to see how its competitors deal with its popularity in the tablet market next year.
