An update to Apple’s latest build promises to solve the ‘no SIM’ problem faced by iPhone 4S users

Published on Dec 19, 2011

Last week, Apple unveiled an update to its Build 5.0.1 codenamed Build 9A406. This update aims to address an error message sited across some iPhone 4S screens. The message reads ‘No SIM installed’ even when a SIM card is already loaded on the device. Users experiencing this problem can access the updated Build through a restoration process that has been streamlined by Apple.

Macrumours got its hands on Apple’s support document that describes the problem and its solution. The official statement reads, “In certain situations, iPhone 4S may have difficulty recognizing a micro-SIM card, resulting in the following behaviors: ‘Invalid SIM’ or ‘No SIM card installed’ alert appears intermittently and status bar displays ‘No service’ or ‘Searching’ in a location with a good network coverage.”

As a solution, Apple recommends that users backup and restore their devices. When they do so, iTunes will introduce the updated Build 5.0.1, loaded with the fix, into the phone. Once the phone has been restored, users can restore their content from their backup and they will be good to go. To verify that their handsets have been updated with Build 9A406, users can enter Settings> General> About.

Apple is confident that its new and improved build will solve the SIM card problem plaguing iPhone 4S devices the world over. The users, on their part, have full faith in Apple and are sure that the tech major will not let them down. With the issue slated to be resolved soon, Apple should be back on its feet in no time, giving all its competitors a run for their money.
