Toy manufacturer sues Asus over Transformer Prime name.
According to Hasbro, people can get confused over the name and Hasbro can loose its famous golden goose story. The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles federal court last week.
In an email statement to PaidContent, Hasbro wrote:
'Hasbro continues to aggressively protect its brands and products and the specific actions we are taking today against Asus underscores yet again Hasbro’s willingness to pursue companies who misappropriate our intellectual property for their own financial gain.'
Still a tablet and a toy robot are pretty different products – we can't see anyone getting too confused about that.
Will LG – with its Optimus Prime-branded phone – be next on Hasbro's hit list? We don't know. But it's certainly a possibility, especially if Asus is forced to pay up.
Hasbro wants the ASUS Transformer Prime banned from sale. Whether a court will uphold this rather nasty demand remains to be seen.
Personally, we don't think the toy-maker has a leg to stand on.
