Though Motorola’s next flagship was thought by some to make an appearance in the market today, experts aren’t surprised that its launch has been pushed by more than a month. A leaked document states February 2 of next year as the official launch date of the DROID 4.

Phandroid got its hands on the leaked data that reveals details about the smartphone. Under device launch information, it reads, “Motorola Droid 4 – 12/22 Tier 1 Launch was moved to 2/2/12”.  Hopefully, Motorola will go ahead and release the phone in February and not delay its retail any further. Since the phone is coming into the market next year, it might just arrive preloaded with the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. That would definitely make the wait worthwhile for Motorola loyalists.

Besides the operating system, the smartphone has some other cool features to offer as well. It is powered by a 1.2GHz processor and supports 1GB of RAM. Its internal storage of 16GB can be increased easily though a MicroSD card. What’s more, the phone runs on a 1785 mAh battery that users can replace themselves.

The DROID 4 has a QWERTY keypad with edge lit keys and a 4’’ qHD screen. The phone has an 8MP rear facing camera which is capable of HD video recording at 1080p. This is most likely accompanied by a smaller front facing camera as well. Motorola’s flagship is the fastest device of its kind, offering 4G LTE connectivity in a slim 12.7 mm body.

If the DROID 4 does get the Ice Cream Sandwich, it will be a force to reckon with. Between the Razr and the DROID 4, Motorola is all set to carve out a comfortable niche for itself in the ever volatile smartphone market.
