Sony Ericsson reveals some more features coming to the Android 4.0 upgrade

Published on Dec 22, 2011

Last week, Sony Ericsson made the Ice Cream Sandwich Alpha ROM available for unlocked Xperia phones. The move was, of course, welcomed by millions around the globe and the company has since been flooded with ‘thank you’ notes. But the tech major isn’t done yet – it still has a number of surprises up its sleeve.

Sony Ericsson revealed today that a number of features are slated to make their way into the Ice Cream Sandwich update in the near future, especially some things customers have been asking about.

The company said, “We are looking into making it possible to create groups in the list of contacts.”

It continues its plans on its blog:

“We’re planning to ship both the Ice Cream Sandwich vanilla gallery app and our own Sony Ericsson gallery app. They both include some great features, so it will be up to you to use the one which fits your needs best.” Sony Ericsson also stated its intention to include the popular swipe to write feature, currently available on their Gingerbread software."

The tech giant has also promised to incorporate customers’ suggestions in its development practices in the future.

It said on its blog:

“Things will be up for consideration and prioritisation, based on parameters such as relevance, usability, workload, resources and timing.”

Sony Ericsson has also made the Open Source archive for the ICS Alpha ROM available and has said that the sensor HAL will soon follow suit.

With all the exciting new features the company has lined up, Xperia phone owners are in for a real treat next year. Combined with the sophisticated platform of Ice Cream Sandwich, these Sony Ericsson phones are all set to give their competitors a run for their money in 2012.
