According to a report in Focus Taiwan that 9to5Mac got its hands on, Apple is pushing its suppliers and manufacturing units to up the production of the much anticipated iPad 3.
Apparently, the company is mounting pressure to ensure that the tablet is ready by February 24 – Steve Jobs’ birthdayand the day Apple wants to launch its new flagship slate.
Sources close to those Taiwanese makers who are involved in the production of Apple products said that as a result of tight deadlines, workers are expecting a lesser number of days off during the Lunar New Year on January 23, 2012.
Traditionally, the Lunar New Year is a time when everyone gets a number of vacation days. Such tight deadlines can only mean one thing: a February 24 release date.
9to5Mac found that Foxconn, one of Apple’s biggest contract manufacturers, Catcher Technology, rumoured makers of the iPad 3’s case, battery maker Simplo Technology, connector maker Amer International Group and optical lens supplier Genius Electronic Optical are working around the clock to ready the tablet in time.
In fact, according to reports, Catcher Technology reportedly stated that at least some of its employees will have to work over time during the Lunar New Year holiday.
If what Apple’s Asian suppliers are saying is true, then the new and improved iPad 3 will most likely start retailing around February-March of next year.
Though not much is known about the tablet, including details about its price and specs, it is rumoured to be sleeker and more powerful than its predecessors.
With Apple’s track record the iPad 3 will definitely give its competitors a run for their money.
