Tango to appear in Q2 2012 and Apollo in Q4, says leaked rollout plan

Published on Dec 28, 2011

GSMarena recently got their hands on what appears to be a plan for the launch of the next Windows Phone updates – the much anticipated Tango and Apollo.

The roadmap appears to be an official document that offers some new information about the upgrades

As per the original roll out plan, Tango will not be launched at CES as earlier predicted. Instead, it is slated for a Q2 2012 release.

GSMarena may be hitting the nail on the head when it predicts that the platform may well be unveiled at CES, which is due to be held in January of next year, but it might be available to users only after April.

The plan shows Tango as the platform which will offer ‘products with the best prices’ – an indicator that cheaper Windows Phone devices are on way. Tango will also enable support for LTE, something that Microsoft users have eagerly been waiting for.

According to the leaked roadmap, Apollo will arrive in Q4 of 2012. Under Apollo the plan reads ‘increase overall volume, competitive smartphone business’.

Windows 8, as Apollo is often called, will most likely revamp Microsoft’s smartphone business, adding multi-core processors, support for NFC and higher resolutions and an improved user interface to its devices.

Though the latest Microsoft roadmap points at a delay in the launch of its latest updates, new and improved features might be worth the wait, especially for Microsoft loyalists who want to stick to the Windows Phone platform.

If Tango and Apollo are everything they are rumoured to be, Microsoft just might be able to take the lead in the smartphone market next year.
