Apple's iTV confirmed for Q4 2012 release date
Published on Dec 28, 2011
Apple's iTV is coming in Q4 of 2012, says reports.
According to reports in Digitimes, Apple is looking to enter the television arena in the coming months and is readying itself for large scale production of its so-called iTV.
Sources told Digitimes that Apple is all set to get into partnership with a number of big brands to help it build components for its latest offering.
Sharp is said to be providing the displays and Samsung the chips for the 32’’ and 37’’ television sets.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) and Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) are the other players in the market rumoured to be partnering with Apple for its next endeavor.
The contract for the assembly line production of the iTV will most likely go to Apple’s favourite business partner, Foxconn.
Apple’s smart TV will probably hit the retail market within the next year. The company is rumoured to be working on the TV designs and will most likely finalise these by the second quarter of 2012.
If all goes according to plan, Apple will unveil iTV by the fourth quarter of next year.
Apple has been in the news for the iTV before, especially since the firm is keen on developing unique content for the device, besides its hardware.
According to Apple Insider, the firm wants to provide subscription based customized content for its users but has not yet got the go-ahead from other service providers.
Ideally, Apple would like to integrate its broadcasting services with iTunes and iCloud and offer live content over the internet for a fee.
Since a decision hasn’t been reached about Apple’s content sharing agreements, it is not yet known if it will be successful in entering the television and broadcasting industry on the terms that it wants to.
If it is, the tech giant will change the face of the television world as we know it.
