3.7 million Android devices activated over Xmas period

Andy Rubin, head of Android, has confirmed – via Twitter – that Google saw 3.7 million android device activations during the Xmas period.

This came after the recent tweet by Andy Rubin in which he announced that Android had reached 7,000,000 activations – up from 5,000,000 in June.

Flurry Analytics, a big data analytics company that measures mobile application trends, released its own analysis of Android and iOS activations over the Christmas holiday.

Peter Ferago, vice president of engineering at Flurry Analytics, said:

“On Christmas Day, activations jumped to more than 6.8 million, a 353% increase over the baseline. Compared with Christmas Day 2010, the previous single-day record, with 2.8 million device activations, Christmas 2011 grew by more than 140%.”

However these 6.8 million activations is the total of Apple and android activations on Christmas. 

As this is the festive season the rise in number is obvious but if we compare it with data from last year it's quite a different story – Google is selling a lot more Android smartphones.
