Apple has filed a patent for its newly developed face-recognition technology. But will the new feature make the iPhone 5?
Apple Insider came across a patent application recently filed by Apple for rights over its facial recognition concept.
The application is entitled ‘Low threshold face recognition’ and talks about an easy and convenient way to recognize a user by his or her face.
Apple is likely to offer this face recognition feature in its future devices, especially those meant to be shared by two or more individuals.
According to Apple’s new concept, an iPad or iPhone will be able to recognize a user by registering their face. Once a device recognizes a user, it will offer him the applications and settings that have been customized for him.
Users will no longer need to change the settings of a shared device manually when they get their hands on it.
Apple’s solution apparently works better than its competitors’, requiring less power by not relying heavily on the surrounding light.
To recognize a user’s face all the Apple device requires is a camera and ‘high information portions’ of a human face. These portions include the areas of the eyes, nose and mouth of an individual.
Since Apple’s new feature consumes very little power, it can be kept on constantly, making accessibility to an iPhone or iPad extremely simple.
Every time a user wants to unlock his device and use it, all he has to do is simply point the device towards his face, without pressing even a single button.
Sounds pretty freaky to us!
