Asus' Eee Transformer Prime will be getting its much awaited Android 4.0 upgrade on January 12.
With its quad-core Tegra 3 processor, the ASUS Transformer Prime is one of the most sophisticated and powerful tablets on the market right now – and Android 4.0 will only serve to add to its appeal.
The ICS rollout will start from January 12, and ideally, within a few days, all Transformer Prime users will be able to get their hands on it.
ASUS released an official statement about the update on its Facebook page:
“ASUS has been working hard to make the highly anticipated Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich available on the Transformer Prime, and today, we have good news for you. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich FOTA worldwide update for the Transformer Prime will start from January 12th, 2012. Thank you for your patience and support through this process.”
The OS update will bring many new features to ASUS’s flagship tablet, including re-sizable widgets and a smootherl user interface. The tablet’s response to touch will be quicker than before and even the address book will get a revamp.
The guys over at XDA Developers who have already tried out the ICS OS on their Transformer Primes have reported better GPS capabilities on their machines too.
ASUS is also working on a tool that will unlock the tablet’s bootloader, a development welcomed by many tablet enthusiasts. Of course, the company has released a warning that rooting the Transformer Prime is risky and will void the device’s warranty.
With the ICS update in tow and no major competition lurking around the corner, the ASUS Transformer Prime is ready to take the tablet market by storm this January.
Backed by its ultra smooth UI and its powerful processor, it is well on its way to becoming the most sought after device in the tech world.
