Here is Know Your Mobile India's guide to the very best smartphones of 2012.

1. iPhone 5: The next generation iPhone is said to be faster and more powerful than ever before. The iPhone 5 is rumoured to have a larger screen too, something Apple loyalists have been eagerly waiting for.

2. Samsung Galaxy S III: The flagship Galaxy S III is expected to take the Korean phone manufacturer to new heights of popularity. Powered by Android 4.0 and a 1.8 GHz quad-core processor and featuring a Super AMOLED III screen, the S III is the next must-have for all Android fans. 

3. Sony Ericsson Nozomi: Also known as the Xperia Arc HD, this smartphone is ideal for those who love to take high resolution pictures and videos with their phones. Sony Ericsson’s flagship will feature a 12MP camera and a HD LCD display.

4. Sony Nyphon: The Nyphon will be the first device from Sony without the Ericsson brand name. Its wedge like design will make typing and reading a breeze, even when the phone is kept down on a flat surface.

5. Nokia Lumia 900: Nokia’s next Windows Phone device is all set to establish it as a tough competitor to Google and Apple. The high-end phone will ship with a 1.4 GHz processor and a 4.3-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display.   

6. HTC Ville: This will probably be HTC’s thinnest smartphone yet with a thickness of just 8mm. With the characteristic HTC unibody, the Ville with be a flagship sporting the ICS OS.

7. LG’s Medfield smartphone: LG is expected to launch one of the first smartphones powered by the newly developed Intel Medfield chip. Though not much is known about LG’s plans, Medfield Android smartphones will be able to play Blu-ray and HD video and click a number of high resolution pictures in burst mode.

8. Samsung Galaxy Skin: This is the perfect device for those who prefer thin, light handsets. The Skin will be the first moldable handset from Samsung, showcasing the company’s breakthrough flexible, moldable design technology.

(Please note: this is a rumour – and a big one at that – so do not be upset if the Skin doesn't appear in 2012)

9. Nokia Lumia 719: This is the device that is rumoured to carry the Windows Phone Tango OS. Offering LTE support, this will be one of the fastest and most easy to use Nokia handsets.   

10. HTC Elite: An ICS powered smartphone, the Elite will also feature Beats Audio. For HTC loyalists passionate about music, this is the phone to go for.
