Published on Jan 4, 2012

We pit the Aakash Tablet against its newest competitor, the Classpad tablet, in this battle of the best budget tablets.

Specs

Both the Classpad and Aakash run on the Android Froyo OS, offering all the basic features of a tablet. The Classpad is powered by a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor whereas Aakash is powered by a 366MHz processor.

The former has a 512MB DDR2 RAM and the latter a 256MB RAM. The Classpad offers 4GB of built-in memory while Aakash offers 2 GB of flash memory and 2GB of memory on a MicroSD card that is expandable up to 32GB.

In terms of power and speed, the Classpad is a better model. It has a reliable battery to back up this decent hardware as well.

Connectivity

The Classpad has a MID1024 TFT LCD capacitive touchscreen while the Aakash comes with a 7-inch resistive touchscreen. The Classpad sports a resolution of up to 1024 x 600p and 1080p video capture.

It offers Wi-Fi, mini-HDMI and USB connectivity, along with a standard 3.5mm jack. Aakash, too, offers comparable connectivity support with its two USB ports and Wi-Fi capabilities. Aakash users can opt for GPRS and 3G facilities as well.

Price

The Classpad comes is various sizes – 7-inch, 8-inch and 10.1-inch. Different models of the tablet will retail at different prices, ranging from Rs. 7,500 for the cheapest, smallest one to Rs. 14,500/ for the largest, most expensive.

The Aakash is of course much cheaper, at a little over Rs. 2,000/. Of course this difference in price is indicative of the difference in the features of the two tablets.

Both the Classpad and Aakash are tablets centered around learning, making them the ideal tools for students.

If a low cost basic tablet is what you are looking for, look no further than Aakash – it's cheap as chips.

But if it is a fancier, faster device that feature plenty of sophisticated features and hardware then you'll want to go for the Classpad.
