Chinese manufacturer ZiiLabs has unveiled a ‘100 core’ ZMS-40 processor at CES 2012.
The processor is a quad-core set up with 96 smaller StemCell Media Processing cores.
The ZMS-40 includes CPU based on ARM Cortex A-9 clocked at 1.5GHz. The 96 StemCell Media Processing cores will help the ARM based CPU in giving better performance.
The task will be performed by dealing with sound and video Codecs and OpenGL graphics, along with video image and audio processing.
The ZMS-40 has been optimized for Android, 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) which comes as good news for many because Android platform is in dire need of optimization.
Maybe now we'll see some companies outside of China take on the chipsets?
