Taiwan based Huawei is ready to break into the high-end smartphone market with its latest offering, the Ascend P1 S, which it has just released at the CES 2012 in Las Vegas.
Huawei claims that its newest device is not only a high-end handset but also the world’s thinnest smartphone, knocking the Motorola Razr off the top spot.
Looks: The Ascend P1 S looks slim, sleek and incredibly light. Though it is made of plastic, it seems solid and tough. Huawei has made sure that it appeals to a range of consumers by offering casings in various colours ranging from the traditional white and black to the vibrant red and yellow.
Dimensions: The handset is remarkably thin at 0.26inches, 0.02inches thinner than the Razr. It sports a 4.3-inches qHD super AMOLED touchscreen which offers a Pentile pixel pattern with a resolution of 960x540 pixels. This screen is protected by Gorilla Glass.
The phone has a set of capacitive keys too, including those for Home, Back and Menu.
Specs: The smartphone is powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz TI OMAP 4460 CPU, accompanied by a SGX 540 graphics processor. It offers 1GB of RAM and runs on Android’s latest operating system, the Ice Cream Sandwich. Of course, it offers Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support too.
There are two cameras on the phone, a rear-facing 8MP one and a front facing 1.3MP one. The Verge got a hands-on preview of these and found that the former is capable of shooting HD video at 1080 pixels and the latter at 720 pixels. A 1670 mAh battery powers the phone.
Thought the pricing if the handset is yet unknown, the Huawei Ascend P1 S will most likely hit stores across the world in Q2 2012, as early as April.
