Motorola Mobility has partnered with Intel to produce Android smartphones and tablets that use the company's Atom processors.

Intel's Atom processor Z2460, formerly known as “Medfield,” will begin to ship with Motorola smartphones in the  second half of this year.

This multi-year, multi-device strategic relationship extends to tablets as well. The partnership aims to combine 'Intel’s leadership in silicon technology and computing innovation with Motorola’s mobile device design expertise.'

During the keynote address at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show, Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini emphasized that bringing best mobile experience is a priority for Intel.

He further added that by offering compatibility with the millions of existing applications and devices, Intel will further enhance the tablet experience for consumers.

During the event Intel also gave the audience a demo of an Intel-powered reference design, which showcased just what is possible with Medfield.
