Apple’s next generation iPads and iPhones are expected to give 20 times better performance through latest GPU launched by Imagination technologies at CES.

Imagination technologies announced their Series 6 family, whose expected performance improvements are 20x or more for the G6400 and G6200, the first two products from the series.

Apple has been a client of the Imagination technologies, graphic processing units (GPUs) for long. Currently Apple products include company's PowerVR SGX543MP2 in the A5 system-on-a-chip found in the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.

These A-5 chipsets is already 73 percent faster than A-4 chipset that was used in previous iOS products who’s GPU clocked at 800MHz.

These GPUs are used inside Apple’s custom-built ARM CPUs. These chips, like the Apple A5 Chipset, for instance, are considered by many to be the best mobile processors on the planet.

It has also been noted that Series 6 designs will support Apple-backed graphics APIs such as OpenGL ES "Haiti", OpenGL 3.x/4.x, and OpenCL 1.x for maximum performance.

Imagination Technologies CEO, Hossein Yassaie said, ‘based on our experience in shipping hundreds of millions of GPU cores, plus extensive market and customer feedback, we have been able to set a new standard in GPU architecture, particularly in the areas of power, bandwidth and efficiency- the key metrics by which GPUs are now judged.'

For now there is no word from Apple about these GPUs being utilized in the next generation products but we expect this to happen as Apple also holds  nine percent stake of the Imagination technologies.
