Microsoft showed-off its speedy Windows Phone platform at the CES 2012

Microsoft held a number of challenges at the CES to prove its worth, promising $100 to anyone who could defeat the speed of a WP handset with their smartphones.

Barring a few, Microsoft emerged the clear winner in most of the challenges and solidified its position in the smartphone market.

In the entire competition, Microsoft won 30 challenges and lost three while one ended in a draw. What’s more, it cleared all the important benchmarks with ease. These benchmarks were identified by the CES 2012 attendees themselves.

Windows Phone won hands down in a series of tasks that included checking the weather, updating multiple social networks and identifying songs. The Me Tile allows WP users to update their status on a number of networking sites simultaneously.

An area where the Windows Phone platform lost out was ‘taking a picture and uploading it on Twitter’. The Apple iPhone 4S beat WP by a few seconds.

When the rules of the contest were revamped to only test the time it took a user to click a snap and press the ‘post’ button, and not to include the upload time,  Microsoft beat Android by a fraction of a second.

As wmpoweruser.com and theverge.com report, contestants who lost to Microsoft had to publicly declare that their ‘phones got smoked by a Windows Phone’.

This may well be an insight of what the future holds for Microsoft. With a powerful smartphone like HTC Titan showing off the fast and efficient Windows Phone platform, Microsoft is here to stay for a very long time.
