Adam tablets get a facelift with the new Android 4.0 ROM

Published on Jan 17, 2012

Notion Ink has made the new Android ICS 4.0.3 Alpha ROM available for users of its Adam tablets, promising bigger, better features on the devices.

The company has also uploaded a video of an Adam tablet running on the new ROM.

With the upgrade, Adam tablets have received hardware acceleration. Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi are now supported and users can mount a SD card on to the device. The capacitive buttons and the back buttons on the tablets work well, as do sensors like the digital compass.

Even so, there are a few features on the tablets that still need to be worked upon in order to make them compatible with the new ROM. For starters, though audio works on the tablets, the HDMI output is only able to deliver video at present and not sound.

Moreover, the tablets are unable to come out of the sleep mode unless the Wi-Fi settings are tweaked. The USBs on the tablets aren’t functioning either, nor is 3G.

The tablets’ rotating cameras are out of action too, as are their light sensors. Also, HQ-quality YouTube videos don’t access the hardware acceleration.

Android Community came across the Notion Ink video that showcases the new ROM. Besides releasing the video, Notion Ink also released an official statement promising a big announcement next week about a new device which it is developing from scratch

Since the company is hoping to make a name for itself in the tablet market this year, it will be interesting to see what it has to offer in comparison to its competitors.
