A spec leak doing the rounds on the internet suggests that Sony Ericsson’s new handset, the Nypon, will ship with Sony’s WhiteMagic display.
The Nypon prototype itself was leaked a few days ago.
The WhiteMagic display technology has been developed recently by Sony. If the leak is to be believed, on the qHD resolution of the Nypon it offers 1000 nits of brightness in the ‘outdoor mode’.
Phone experts have compared the brightness offered by this technology to the brightness of the display of the Nokia 701, a handset recognized for its bright, sharp images.
According to Sony, when used in the regular mode, its White Magic display uses up considerably less battery than other conventional LCDs. Of course, that means an overall improvement in the battery life of the device powered by it.
The WhiteMagic display definitely adds to the appeal of the Nypon in more ways than one.
According to the spec leak that phonearena got its hands on, the smartphone sports a 4-inch display with a resolution of 540x960 pixels.
Its 8.1MP camera comes with 1080p video recording capabilities, Sony’s Exmor R back-illuminated sensor and a LED display. The dual-core device will ship with the Android Gingerbread OS.
The spec leak that Phonearena got its hands on details the Nypon as a Sony Ericsson device called LT22i but leaked pictures of the phone show only a Sony branding on it.
It will be interesting to see what brand name the phone ultimately releases under. From all its leaks, at least it has been established that it has a lot offer with its high end camera and WhiteMagic display.
