ASUS is working on a solution for the Transformer Prime’s ICS update problem

Published on Jan 18, 2012

Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime users might not have to wait too long to get a fix for the bug on their machines that doesn’t allow them to upgrade to the recently released ICS OS update.

ASUS has officially claimed that it is close to finding a solution to the problem.

Many Transformer Prime users who try to update their machines with the Android 4.0 OTA update aren’t able to do so.

A bug in the tablets’ software doesn’t allow the update to recognise the device’s serial number. Users have been facing an ‘unknown serial number’ message on their slates. Without a serial number, the update cannot install on the machine.

ASUS has recognized the problem and is working around the clock to solve it. For the time being, the company has posted a suggestion on XDA telling users wishing to upgrade to perform a factory reset.

If it doesn’t work the first time, Gary Key of ASUS suggests trying again after the device reboots. According to him, users should allow their machines 10-15 minutes to settle after the reset.

A factory reset has worked for some users but not for all. Of course, a permanent solution is required for the Transformer Prime’s update problem.

According to Phandroid, Gary Key from ASUS has mentioned on XDA that the company was ‘very close to finalizing a fix’ to the ICS bug.

Hopefully then, Transformer Prime users will not have to wait too long to finally get their hands on the long awaited ICS upgrade for their tablets.
