Rumoured specs of the next generation iPad promise a big leap from the iPad 2

Published on Jan 18, 2012

Though Apple has not let out any details about its new and improved iPad 3, the internet is rife with rumors of what the tablet will have on offer - and what the world is expecting from it.

Talk about the Apple iPad 3’s processor has been around for a while now. The tablet is rumoured to be powered by a powerful quad-core A6 processor which is accompanied by a graphics processor speculated to be twenty times more refined than the one in the iPad 2.

Another improvement expected on the new iPad is its display. Apple’s popular Retina display is said to have received a facelift for the iPad 3 and will sport a resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. Of course, Siri is expected on the tablet too.

The new iPad is also rumoured to come with a thicker chassis. Apparently, the tablet will be have a significantly improved battery life as well, something that all Apple loyalists are looking forward to. Another feature that tablet enthusiasts are excited about on the iPad 3 is its 4G LTE connectivity.

Though Apple’s plans about the iPad’s camera are anyone’s guess, the company will do well to install high-end rear and front shooters on the tablet. According to latest rumours, the tablet does sport a camera similar to the one on the iPhone 4S.

Apple’s supply chain partners told Digitimes that production of the display panel units for the iPad 3 had taken off in a big way. In fact, the company has seemingly ordered 6-7 million panels to be shipped in the current quarter, leading many to believe that the tablet will indeed be unveiled in March

Though production of the display panel for the iPad 3 is expected to overtake that of the iPad 2 by next quarter, it looks like the iPad 2 will still be available in the market. Experts believe that Apple will pitch it against the Amazon Kindle Fire by bringing down its retail price.

This might just be the year of the Apple iPad since according to sources, 40 million display panels of the iPad 3 are expected to ship in 2012, followed of 25 million panels of the iPad 2.

If all the runmours surrounding the iPad 3 are correct, then tablet lovers are in for a treat. Here’s hoping Apple spruces up camera and content sharing options on the iPad 3 and makes it the most desirable device in the market this year.
