Rumours around the internet suggest that Microsoft’s newest offering Tango is compatible with mid-range mobile phones since it can function well with just 256MB of RAM.

Windows Phone enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting Tango, the update that promises to put Microsoft firmly in a leading position in the smartphone market. Many new and improved features are expected from Tango, including a smoother and easier-to-use UI.

Word around the internet is that Tango, loaded with all sorts of goodies, can actually run quite well with just 256MB of RAM.

Experts believe that if this is indeed true, Microsoft has a winner on its hands, since Tango can then ship with mid-range handsets from manufacturers like Nokia.

Currently, most WP mobiles use 512MB of RAM.

Gsmarena is slightly vary of Tango’s abilities though. Those familiar with the OS wonder if phones with RAMs of 256MB will have to compromise a bit in quality while offering the update.

Another feature most WP users are looking forward to on Tango is its rumoured ability to sort applications into folders on a phone’s start screen, leading to a neat and uncluttered display.

These folders are expected to make it easier to maneuver from one task to another as well.

Tango is rumoured to be officially released in Q2 of this year. Meanwhile, the world’s attention is focused on the Mobile World Congress scheduled to be held in Barcelona next month, where further details about the update are expected to be unveiled.
